Requirements to Earn Certificate

To earn the certificate, candidates must complete a series of courses related to the transportation field.  A detailed description of the full academic requirements and a description of the course types can be found at the links below.

CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENTS

The basic program requirements are as follows:

  * Four, semester-length (or an equivalent number of academic quarter contact hours), theme-related graduate level courses must be completed to obtain the certificate.
  * Each course must be taken for graduate-level credit at the offering university.


The student must meet a minimum grade requirement of a B or better in each course.

The four courses must consist of:

  * Two courses selected from a group of seven core courses
  * Two courses, which can be selected from one of seven elective course types, covering a variety of theme-related topics


From among the following seven generic core course titles, at least two must be selected (but four courses could be selected) for the certificate:

  1. Transportation Policy and Planning
  2. Transportation Systems Analysis
  3. Transportation Economics
  4. Transportation Operations and Safety
  5. Transportation Management
  6. Transportation Security
  7. Climate Change and Energy


There are also seven elective course-titles from which two courses could be used to meet the certificate requirements:

  1. Freight Logistics
  2. Project Management
  3. Advanced Modeling Techniques
  4. Infrastructure Management
  5. Information Technology Management
  6. Environmental Analysis
  7. Multimodal set;  either one general overview course, or one of a variety of full semester courses such as
      * Transit Planning and Operations
      * Airport Planning and Operations
      * Water Port Planning and Operations
      * Bikeways and Pedestrian Planning and Operations
      * Rail Freight and Passenger Planning and Operations
